Today, I finally got accepted to AFS-Italy!!!
I'm so excited! I thought that my acceptance wouldn't be for at least another three weeks!
My next step is to:
Get a host family.
Right now I'm also trying to learn as much Italian as I can!

Introduction
Hello! My name is Jocelyn, and I will be using this blog to tell you about my mishaps, laughter, disgust, joy, and change that I will experience, when I go overseas.
I'm going through a program called AFS - American Feild Service. They seemed the most legit exchange site and they have been living up to my expectations.
As for the most frequently asked question - "Where are you going??", that, sadly I have to answer with a "I'm not sure yet. I should know soon."
My first choice is Italy, and my full application has officially been sent abroad there!
Right now, at this moment, even though I've been swept through a whirlwind of AFS phone calls, and non-stop talk of the process, it's still hard to believe. At this point, it doesn't seem real, you know?
During my interveiw, I was asked probably what was supposed to be the most simplist question in the world: Why Italy?
At that time my answer to that question was pretty dumb. It included a lot of er's, uh's, and yeah's. I wasn't sure what would be right. And also, I found it very hard to put so much feeling into words. Yeah, I know that sounds a little cliche, but it's true.
If I could answer that question again, my list of answers would probably be:
-The food (pasta, breadsticks, "real" pizza)
-The weather (it doesn't get too cold there, right?)
-The language (pretty, and I speak a tiny bit of spanish)
-The tiny fishing villages (so pretty)
-The soccer craze (we don't have it here!)
-Big Scarves (my middle name is scarf)
There are a bunch of others, but the main thing is the vibe of it all. And it's really hard to explain a vibe.
But, choosing Italy does make me a feel, a bit unoriginal in the exchange student world. I mean, couldn't I go somewhere with a little pazaz, like Ghana, or Japan?
But, going to Italy was probably my original choice, even though I went back and forth so much between Thailand, Tunisia, Australia, Japan, Portugal, India, and so many others.
Every one of them had many pros and cons, but it all came back to Italy, like it always seemed to. And Viola! That is my first choice.
Keeping in mind that AFS-ITALY will have my full application soon, or now (?), it will be about 2-3 weeks (or so AFS says) before I know anything more. In the mean time, I will continue to try and build my meager laptop fund.
